It was the Summer of 2020. Plans had to be cancelled, diverted and moved around many times, and these two made the most of it. Laura and Scott were married in Scott’s parents beautiful backyard under a gorgeous sailcloth tent, afterwards they took some quiet time with their wedding party at the Arboretum; a gorgeous park along the Rideau Canal, and celebrated over an elegant floral-infused, intimate candle-lit dinner in Laura’s parents backyard. It could not have been more perfect! It really does take a village and the team that made this day happen deserves a shout-out! You can find the extensive list at the bottom of this story – a dream team if you ask me.
Here is what Laura had to say when asked what it was like getting married and celebrating at their parents beloved homes – something they had not planned on doing for the original wedding that was set to take place at the National Gallery of Canada in downtown Ottawa.
“Our original wedding plans scheduled for July 2020 quickly changed due to COVID-19. We set another date in September and knew that no matter what, we still wanted to get married on that day, even if it meant just 10 people could be present. Luckily for us, our back-up plan was able to happen on September 5th, just two weeks before tighter restrictions were implemented.
Thinking back now, we aren’t sure why we didn’t decide this from the very beginning, but we like to think that everything happens for a reason. We had the wedding of our dreams – a ceremony with family and friends present in Scott’s parents backyard under a sailcloth tent with two friends from high school serenading us, followed by a beautifully intimate candlelit dinner in Laura’s parents backyard accompanied by a jazz band.
For us, this wedding was more than we ever imagined. Being able to celebrate in our parents’ backyards ended up being more meaningful and special than we even imagined. Now every time we are there, we remember our day and all the love that was shared.”
